Supervision

Supervision provides a managed space for reflective and critical thinking that is in the service of the practitioner and their work e.g. a coach, clinician, organisational consultant, Action Learning Set facilitator, social worker or manager. The supervisor’s role is to create an environment where openness and honesty can be expressed in relation to challenges being experienced, where the supervisee’s anxiety, stress and hope can be contained and where possibilities and hypotheses can be explored. Supervision should enable the practitioner to feel clearer about next steps, to better understand the intra and inter personal complexities that have interfered with their thinking and to engage with reframing of purpose and direction.

We can offer one-to-one, team or group supervision. The latter two are not the same in that team supervision will focus on team purpose/focus whereas group supervision allows individuals within a group to bring their material for discussion by the group. The approach taken will vary dependent on the issues arising. Sessions can be one- off to discuss a specific issue or ongoing short or longer term. Our first session always includes time for contracting to be clear about focus and boundaries.

Impact Stories

A single consultation supervision session with a pair of clinicians who were consulting to a charity. They requested support with their thinking as their work began to change from the familiar clinical input to a more organisational/strategic demand. The supervision resulted in greater clarity around the boundary of their contract with the organisation and increased confidence to maintain their role and suggest alternatives to meet the request for additional input from the charity.
